StartSmart program offers early registration to new and returning students

The Modesto Junior College StartSmart program for new students will begin on West Campus in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on July 7 and continue through July 26, 2010. StartSmart is a program that combines orientation, advising, and registration, which can result in a student being able to register as much as one month earlier than their assigned time. StartSmart is open to students who have never attended college or returning students who have not yet earned a degree,

The first steps for participating in MJC’s StartSmart are to complete a Fall 2010 admissions application online and take the assessment tests in English/reading (or ESL) and math in the MJC Testing Center located in Yosemite Hall on West Campus. After applying and taking the placement tests, a student chooses a StartSmart session that matches their major and reserves a seat by calling (209) 575-6087. Space is limited to 50 per workshop, so students need to apply, test and reserve a seat now! To learn more about the StartSmart program and the view workshop dates click here!

MJC will also provide advising to current/continuing students, as well as advising for new students who missed StartSmart, on West Campus beginning July 7 through August 26, 2010. Students can take advantage of this valuable service Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Yosemite Hall, Room 117. Closing time may vary depending on student traffic. Students are advised to arrive early.

All advising May 3 through July 6, 2010 will take place in the East Campus Counseling Center, Morris Building 103 from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Closing time may vary depending on student traffic. Continuing students are advised to see a counselor during May or June and to arrive early. For more information contact the MJC Counseling Center at (209) 575-6080.
