Have you dreamed about training for a career in interior design? Seats are still available in Modesto Junior College’s Interior Finishes – Construction Materials class for the fall semester! The three-unit course (MINTDS-220, Section 3301) is part of MJC’s Interior Design program and will be taught by Loretta Shaver Sudweeks on Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:15 – 3:45 p.m. in John Muir 159 on West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Avenue.
This course provides an introduction to the industry and a survey of interior finish materials and materials used in construction. Students will learn about the influence of style and technology on lighting, flooring, paint and wall coverings, window treatments, plumbing fixtures and appliances, textiles, furnishings and various surface materials. The class will study the selection of these materials and specification issues related to specific categories of products. There is a hands-on lab component to the class and field trips may be required.
The course carries a pre-requisite completion of Introduction to Interior Design (INTDS-200), and a co-requisite of enrollment in INTDS-215 which is not being offered in the fall. However, students may challenge pre-requisite and co-requisite requirements by filling out a form available in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department Office, John Muir 157.
The Interior Finishes – Construction Materials course, which begins on August 30, is transferable to a California State University.
