Modesto Turkey Trot planned for Thanksgiving Day

Modesto Junior College Cross Country Team invites anyone looking for exercise before their Thanksgiving Day dinner to participate in the annual Modesto Turkey Trot on Thursday, November 26, at the Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto. The fun run will begin at 9 a.m. with a 1/2-mile kids race (junior high school and under), followed by the 5 kilometer run/walk at 9:20 a.m. The 5 kilometer course (3.1 miles) follows the Tuolumne River on a paved bike path, passing through the old oak groves in the park.

After the race there will be an awards ceremony, refreshments and raffle prizes. Awards are given to the top three male and female in nine divisions and all participants in the kids 1/2 mile run receive medals.

Race-day registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:45 a.m. with registration fees ranging from $5 to $20. Long-sleeved T-shirts will be available for the first 800 registrants only, so pre-registration is encouraged. Pre-registered participants can beat the race day rush by picking up their number and shirt the day before the race on November 25, 2 – 6 p.m. in the MJC Gymnasium located on Coldwell Avenue, East Campus. All Turkey Trot proceeds will go towards supporting the MJC Cross Country program.

A registration form is available online at http://virtual.mjc.edu/athletics/ or by contacting Coach Mary Shea at (209) 575-6219 or sheam@mjc.edu.
