High school and college students will have a chance to pick up information and ask questions of representatives from over 30 four-year colleges and universities at Modesto Junior College’s Transfer Day and College Night scheduled for Tuesday, November 10 on East Campus, located at 435 College Avenue. Both events are free and open to college students, and high school students and their parents.
Transfer Day is held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Center and is targeted at MJC students seeking information on transferring to a four-year college. College Night assists high school students in making plans to pursue a higher education and the evening will begin with a panel presentation 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center. Following the presentation, college representatives will again be available at information tables 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Cafeteria.
Although budget constraints have made it difficult for as many campuses to participate, representatives from approximately 33 four-year colleges and universities will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about their institutions, including academic programs, admission procedures, transfers, financial aid, student life and more. Students will be able to pick up financial aid applications and go from table to table, collect literature and speak directly with representatives from each school. Most representatives are from admissions offices, so students can hear firsthand what they need to do to meet admission requirements and can obtain information on programs, tuition and scholarships.
California public colleges participating this year include Universities of California at Berkeley, Davis, Merced, Riverside, Los Angeles and Santa Cruz, and California State Universities Fresno, East Bay (Hayward) , Sacramento, Stanislaus, Humbolt, San Jose, Sonoma, and CSU Fresno Construction Management Program, as well as Modesto Junior College. Private colleges that will have representatives available at both events include the Art Institute, Chapman University, Cogswell Polytechnical College, Expression College for Digital Arts, Fresno Pacific University, Holy Names University, Kaplan University, Menlo College, Patten University, St. Mary's College of California, University of San Francisco, University of the Pacific, Westmont College and William Jessup University. Out-of-state colleges that will be participating include Hawaii Pacific University, University of Alaska in Fairbanks, University of New Mexico and University of Nevada in Reno. Some of these institutions will have representatives at College Night only or Transfer Day only.
Attendees will be able to obtain up-to-date information about MJC’s Transfer Admission Agreement programs that can help students transfer to a four-year university after completing general education requirements at the college. MJC has Transfer Admission Guarantee programs with University of California, Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Merced, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, California State University, San Jose, CSU Stanislaus, CSU Sacramento, CSU Humboldt, CSU Chico, University of the Pacific and Chapman University.
