The Modesto Junior College Foundation will hold the 13th annual "Summer Sonata" on Friday, July 17, at the home of Dr. Lars and Sabrina Enevoldsen in Modesto. The elegant evening features food by Appetez Restaurant, fine wine and music. The event begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m., and winds up with a live auction led by Dave Halvorson of American Chevrolet as auctioneer. A silent auction will also be held throughout the social hour and dinner.
The cost to attend is $150 per person and table sponsorships are still available. Event proceeds benefit college programs, campus projects and student scholarships. Businesses or community members wishing to support the educational programs of MJC are invited to donate dinner parties, use of vacation homes or time shares, golf outings, original artwork, jewelry, cases of wine, gift certificates and other items for the silent and live auctions.
An auction item that will be popular with wine enthusiasts and collectors is the "wine cellar package" that includes a refrigerated wine cellar unit and a variety of fine wines. Another unique item up for purchase is the opportunity to become the Sonata King and Queen, complete with crowns, and preside as royalty over next year's event. Campus divisions and departments are donating beautiful gift baskets for this year's silent auction.
The Summer Sonata is the main fundraiser for the Foundation and has provided over $750,000 since its inception for MJC student scholarships, program grants, supplies, and other educational activities not provided by the state. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in 1968, the Foundation exists to generate financial support for and to increase community awareness of the students, programs, and activities of MJC.
