MJC Civic Engagement Project offers series of insightful films for spring

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project Spring Film and Lecture Series is offering four documentary films and a panel discussion event this semester. These free, public events are scheduled on Thursdays at 7 p.m. in Forum 101 on East Campus. The Film and Lecture Series is designed to provide students and members of the community with the opportunity to engage in topics of social interest and relevance through the screening of thoughtful movies and by bringing speakers to the campus who have demonstrated knowledge on topics deemed to be of social significance.

The film line-up includes Bigger, Faster, Stronger on February 4; The Betrayal on February 18; Trouble the Water on March 4; Flow: For the Love of Water on March 18 and Food, Inc. on April 15. Each film screening will include a discussion following each film screening. Click here for a brief description of upcoming films.

The panel discussion entitled “Liberal and Conservative: Defining the Terms” has been postponed and we will post the date as soon as it is re-scheduled. Although we often hear the terms "liberal" and "conservative" in conversation with friends or by various media pundits, rarely are these terms explained in depth. What do these terms mean? How exactly do conservatives differ from liberals? When did these terms arise historically? How has each term changed? This panel discussion will aim to shed light on the meaning of these terms and how they have changed in the past 200 years.
