Dancer Keith Johnson and company to provide instruction and dance performances at MJC

Keith Johnson/Dancers will be in residency at Modesto Junior College November 5, 6, & 7. Johnson and his company will be working with MJC dancers and dancers from area high schools and the community through master dance classes and lecture demonstrations.

In addition to the guest artist teaching schedule, the Keith Johnson/Dancers will perform repertory concerts on November 6 and November 7 at 7:30 p.m. in MJC’s Cabaret West Dance Theatre, located in the El Capitan Center on West Campus. Admission is $10 general and $8 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the MJC Box office on the East Campus Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. or by calling 575-6776 during box office hours. Tickets, with limited seating, will also be available 90 minutes prior to each performance at the West Campus location. Keith Johnson is the Artistic Director of Keith Johnson/Dancers which was established in 1998 in Los Angeles. Johnson received his MFA from the University of Utah and currently is a professor of dance at California State University, Long Beach. He has danced with Ririe/Woodbury, Creach/Koester, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance and Doug Varone Dance company. He continues to perform with Nancy Bannon as well as Colleen Thomas. He has received funding support from the Coo San Goh Foundation, the Utah Arts Council, Dance USA, and CSULB.

Johnson’s choreography has been commissioned by the Ririe/Woodbury Dance company as well as universities and solo artists throughout the US. Johnson has received the Dee R. Winterton Award for Excellence in Dance, Outstanding Professor at CSULB, and a 2008 Lester Horton Award for outstanding choreography. He continues to teach and choreograph both nationally and internationally.
