Modesto Junior College is celebrating February as Black History Month with a luncheon that will feature MJC student Carmen Gray speaking on “Black History from a Global Perspective – African Hebrews of Israel” on Thursday, February 18, 12 noon – 1:30pm in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on West Campus, located at 2201 Blue Gum Avenue in Modesto.
Gray will talk about her experience living in Israel and the link between African American history and the African Hebrew Israelites. The “soul food” lunch menu will include catfish, sweet potatoes, and rice with red beans, collard greens, buttermilk cornbread, peach cobbler and ice tea.
The event is sponsored by the Associated Students of Modesto Junior College (ASMJC) and the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC). Tickets are $15 general and $12 for MJC students and AAWCC members, and must be purchased by February 15 at the MJC Public Information Office, Morris 201A, on East Campus, 575-6866.
