Golf Classic planned to benefit new Science Community Center and GVM
The Modesto Junior College and the Great Valley Museum will hold a Bette Belle and Jean Smith Golf Classic, on Monday, May 18 at the Oakdale Country Club, 243 N. Sterns Road in Oakdale. The golf tournament is a fundraiser to benefit the new MJC Science Community Center and Great Valley Museum planned for the college's West Campus and projected to open in fall of 2011. While Measure E bond funds will cover the cost of constructing the new classroom facility and museum, additional funding is needed for furnishings, equipment and landscaping.

The golf tournament will tee off at 1 p.m. with a shot gun start and the format is a four-person scramble. Prior to the tournament there will be a driving range target contest, a chipping contest and a putting contest. Mulligans and tickets for a prize drawing will also be for sale. At 6 p.m. there will be dinner and awards ceremony. Tournament registration is $175 and non-players can attend the dinner for $30. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, May 14 and registration forms are available in the Great Valley Museum, 1100 Stoddard Avenue, or call 575-6196. Golf Classic sponsorships are also available, ranging from $3,500 for a Platinum level to $100 for a Hole Sponsor, and information is available at the Great Valley Museum.
