Using the Respondus Lockdown Browser to Take Exams or Quizzes

In order to enhance test security, MJC has installed the Respondus Lockdown Browser .   Any faculty may chose to require that students use this special browser for taking tests and quizzes - however, its use is purely optional .   If your instructor is requiring that you use this browser in order to take one or more tests/quizzes, you'll need to do the following:

  1. Use the link on the right to download and install the Lockdown Browser.   Versions are available for Windows and Mac machines.  The browser is free and it's widely used at Colleges and Universities around the world.
  2. Once the browser has been installed it will appear on your Desktop or Programs list.   When you open the browser, you will automatically be directed to the Blackboard login page.
  3. Use your standard Username and Password to login.
  4. NOTE:   when you open the browser, it will force the shutdown of any program that it sees as a potential security threat.   This is done in order to prevent students from printing exam questions; taking screen-shots of test questions; opening up another browser to research test questions; opening a chat window to Instant Message another person; etc....
  5. If you try to access a test/quiz that has been setup to require the Lockdown Browser by using Internet Explorer; Firefox; etc....., the test/quiz will not open!

Use the link on the right to access the download site if your instructor is requiring its use.   Also included is a user-guide.
