Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS)
A program designed to give students that extra helping hand they may need to reach their academic goals
by providing financial assistance, support and especially an enthusiastic energetic staff dedicated
to helping students. It is a state funded program with the goal of making sure students who qualify
for the program have an opportunity to succeed.
How do I qualify for the EOPS program?
According to Chapter 2.5, Division 7, Title 5 of the California Code
of Regulations student must meet the following criteria:
You must be 18 years or older, and a resident of California

Be enrolled full-time (12units+) when you submit your EOPS application
==========
Have not completed more than 70 units of degree applicable credit course work
in any combination of Post-secondary higher education institutions

Qualify to receive a board of Governors' (BOGW-A/BOGW-B) through the
Financial Aid office
===========
Demonstrate high financial need
===========
Be educationally disadvantaged based on the following factors:
X - Not qualified for enrollment into a minimum level English or
Mathematics course that is applicable to the associate degree
X - Not a high school graduate
X - Do not have a Certificate of Equivalency to High School Diploma
X - Graduated from high school with a grade point average below 2.00 on a 4.00 scale
What is the application process and how long
will it take before I know I am accepted into the program?
Before your application can be processed you must:
1. Attend a scheduled EOPS Application Workshop.
2. Fill out an application and return it to the EOPS office.
3. Be registered in at least 12 units at Modesto Junior College.
4. Have a file with the Financial Aid Office and be eligible for BOGW-A or BOGW-B.
5. Assessment test results or transcripts from previous colleges you have
attended may be necessary.
BEOPS accepts applications subsequent to scheduled Application Workshop attendance.
New applications are processed in the Spring, Summer and Fall until the program has reached its limit.
Workshops are offered a semester ahead of time and students are encouraged to apply in a timely manner.
After the above steps are completed and during the time we process applications,
you will receive a letter from the EOPS office. If you do not qualify for the program
the reason will be stated in the letter.
What will EOPS do for me? Will I get Money?
1. A personalized introduction and orientation to Modesto Junior College.
2. Assistance with admissions and financial aid applications.
3. Individual academic, personal and vocational counseling.
4. Referrals to tutorial services and community resources.
5. Consideration for a book voucher to help with the cost of textbooks.
(You must meet certain criteria to receive a book voucher)
6. Field trips to four-year colleges and universities may be available.
7. Up to the minute information on dates and times for applying for scholarships,
Federal and State Grant Programs and other documents that you will
need to file on a timely basis.
8. Consideration for an EOPS cash grant.
(You must meet certain criteria to receive an EOPS Grant)
What kind of help can I get with childcare?
Assistance with the cost of childcare is available through the
EOPS CARE Program. You will also receive information
regarding resources available to you on
campus and in the community.
What is the CARE Program, How do I qualify,
and how can it help me with child care?
CARE is a State-funded Program
Participants must be:
2. Single heads of households
3. Enrolled in at least 12 units
4. Must apply for financial aid
5. Must be a current EOPS student
6. Must be a recipient of TANF
7. Must have at least one child under 14 years old
CARE provides money to help cover childcare and transportation
costs, academic and personal counseling, which helps develop coping
strategies to meet the added demands of school and home.
Workshops address the specific concerns and issues that affect single parents
and provide the opportunity to network with other single parents
and their children through group activities and educational field trips.
Do I have to reapply every year to stay in the Program?
No........
But... you must meet the terms of your Mutual Responsibility Contract.
Could I lose my privilege of being in the EOPS Program?
Yes.........
Failure to meet the terms of your Mutual Responsibility
Contract may affect your eligibility for EOPS/CARE services.
