First day of class
Don't miss the first day of classes! You may lose your spot in your classes if you do. If you do miss the first class session, contact your instructor immediately. Let them know why you missed the class, and that you will be there for the next session. If you don't you may be dropped from the class.
Feeling lost and need help?
Visit one of the many information tables located around campus during the first week of the semester. You might want to check out our campus maps & directions, too. Many office have extended hours during the first week of the semester to help you.
Print your class schedule
Bring your printed class schedule with you on the first day of class. It has all the information about where and when your classes are held. Be sure to print it the night before your classes start so you can double check your class times and locations have not changed. Remember, we have two campuses, and many off-campus locations. You want to show up at the right place at the right time! Use PiratesNet to print your class schedule.
Get here early
Parking during the first two weeks of the semester can be challenging, so you need to make sure you have time to do that AND find your classes. Plan on arriving at least 30-45 minutes before your classes start.
Parking permits
Parking in any of the on-campus lots requires a parking permit. There are yellow boxes in the campus parking lots that allow you to purchase a $1 daily permit. You may purchase a full semester permit online at PiratesNet or at the Business Services Office - check the parking permit page for current fees.
We also offer a discounted $10 parking permit that allows you to park on West Campus and take the MJC Prime Shine Pirate EXPRESS Shuttle Bus between West and East campuses. If you paid for a permit online, you can pick it up at the Business Services Office located on East Campus.
Wait-listed?
If you are on a wait list, make sure you attend the first class meeting. Instructors will take roll from those who are enrolled, then from those on the waitlist, and finally add students from the waitlist if space is available. If you are not there, you will lose your spot! For online classes, be sure to submit an "E-add card request" from PiratesNet. For Telecourses, stop by the Telecourse Office in the East Campus Library or call (209) 575-6236.
Add cards
If you receive an add card from your instructor, be sure to add your class using the PiratesNet "Add class with add card from instructor" feature immediately. You have just three days to add the class!
Note about adding classes: Due to the current budget situation, instructors will not be able to add as many students as they have in the past. Check with staff at our information tables; they may be able to share tips on getting into classes that are still open.
Buy your books
Buy your books online at the Pirates' Bookstore website or in person at the Pirates' Bookstore. You will need a copy of your class schedule to buy the books at the bookstore.
Pay your fees
Your fees are due at the time you register for classes. You can pay fees online at PiratesNet with a credit card or in person at the Business Office on East Campus. Lines will be long, so try to pay online if you can.

Computer labs
If you need to use a computer lab, there are large labs for student use on the East Campus in the Library and Pirates' Village, with smaller, specialized labs in other buildings. On the West Campus, there are large labs in the Library, the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center, and Sierra Hall. You will need a GoPrint card to print documents from any on-campus computer.
Construction notes
Watch out for ongoing Measure E construction on both campuses. Also note some parking areas are temporarily unavailable during construction, or have been re-designated.
