California State University (CSU)
The California State University is one of two public university systems in the state of California. It is the nation's largest university system, with 23 CSU campuses serving over 450,000 students. The CSU offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in over 300 subject areas, as well as a variety of teaching credential programs. A select number of doctoral degrees are offered jointly with the University of California or with private universities in California.

University of California (UC)
The University of California is one of two public university systems in the state of California. It consists of 10 campuses with a total enrollment of over 220,000 students. In addition to fulfilling its teaching mission, the UC serves as the state's research institution and engages a number of public service programs and industry partnerships. The UC offers bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees and provides a number of opportunities for post-degree continuing education.

Private California Colleges & Universities (AICCU)
In addition to the public universities, California is home to a higher education segment that is not funded by the government, rather by tuition paid by students and private donations. These are the independent colleges and universities of California, many of whom belong to the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU). Independent schools vary widely in size and mission. There are more than 77 WASC accredited degree granting, non-profit independent colleges and uni¬versities serving over 289,000 students in California.
