Duties: Teach reading to 3rd and 4th grade students. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 3:00 pm.
Qualifications: High school graduates interested in teaching. Tutor training is provided by REACH. Background checks are required.

Westside Healthcare Advisory - Community Outreach Intern
Unpaid Internship --- Approximately 10-15 hours per week
Flexible Schedule --- Approximate duration of 6 months
The Westside Healthcare Advisory Taskforce is a public/private/non-profit consortium of interested healthcare proponents on the west side of Stanislaus County and northern Merced County. The Healthcare Advisory includes representatives from many of the west side health care providers, the cities of Gustine, Newman and Patterson, and Stanislaus County. The mission of the Healthcare Advisory is to foster a richer communication between west side healthcare providers and communities and by so doing - better identify service gaps and potential opportunities to improve.
The Healthcare Advisory has recently launched a healthy lifestyle education campaign and is currently recruiting a Community Outreach Intern. The position is approximately 10-15 hours a week and is a 6-month, unpaid internship. The program is being coordinated through the Stanislaus County Chief Executive Office by Deputy Executive Officer of Economic Development, Keith D. Boggs.
The Community Outreach Intern will facilitate the day-to-day operations of a healthy lifestyle education campaign. The Community Outreach Intern will participate in program development and implementation as well as monitoring and reporting on the program's progress. The Community Outreach Intern will work independently and check in weekly with the program manager.
Typical Tasks
Gather and analyze statistical information, prepare reports and participate in grant writing
Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of programs and services designed to meet the health educational needs of private and public organizations, schools, community groups and the general public
Coordinate with direction, the implementation and evaluation of the health education outreach components
Assist in the planning, coordinating, and implementation meetings
Assist in the preparation and delivery of presentations to various community groups
Develop or oversee the acquisition of health education pamphlets, books, and audio-visual materials
Minimum Qualifications:
Skills/Abilities
Develop curriculum on various health topics
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with groups, organizations, employees and officials
Provide education to community and professional staff
Interpret program goals, formulate objectives and Initiate projects
Communicate effectively both verbally and by writing clear concise reports
Design, effectively use and evaluate health education methods and materials
Evaluate programs
Collect and analyze data
Network and build alliances with community organizations
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is preferred
Knowledge of:
Health promotion principles, methods, learning theories and techniques
Research methodology, statistical concepts, collection and analysis of data
Methods of effective public relation, including: preparing, disseminating and evaluating education information to the public
Standard community resources of health education and services
Basic computer operation and applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Internet Explorer
