Job Title: Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid

Rate of Pay: $11.58 per hour
Duties: Duties include field collection and laboratory processing of fish and invertebrate samples from San Francisco Bay. The majority of time will be spent in a laboratory processing preserved shrimp samples, which includes identification and measurement of specimens. A Scientific Aid will typically be in the field 2-3 days per month collecting samples from a research vessel. During field work, the Scientific Aid will deploy and retrieve various types of fishing gear and participate in the sorting, identifying, counting, and measuring of fishes and invertebrates. Field days can be 12-14 hours long and start early in the morning. The position will also involve driving the boat crew to or from various marinas in the Bay Area, including Antioch, Martinez, Berkeley, and Coyote Point.
Minimum Qualifications: A valid California Driver’s License and either:
Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester units in biology or chemistry.
or
Experience: One year surveying, studying, or evaluating fish or wildlife populations or habitats, or working in a chemistry laboratory.
Desirable Qualifications: College course work in ichthyology, fisheries, or zoology. Experience identifying fish or crustaceans. Experience working in a laboratory environment and with microscopes.
