Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program that targets historically difficult courses. SI sessions are regularly-scheduled, informal, peer-led review sessions in which students compare notes, discuss assignments, develop organizational tools, and predict test items. Students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together.
How SI Works
The SI Leader attends course lectures, takes notes, reads all assigned materials, and conducts three to five out-of-class SI sessions a week. The SI Leader is the "model student," a facilitator who helps students integrate course content and learning/study strategies. It's almost like having a best friend who has already aced the course - from the very same instructor! Thirty years of research shows that students who attend SI sessions receive consistently higher grade. Currently SI is available in several sections of Anatomy 125, Physiology 101, and Math 134.
