Graphic Design

The Graphic Design field distinguishes itself from the general arts field by stressing the application of visual knowledge. The designer must have the ability to be both imaginative and practical, be able to analyze the needs of contemporary society, and solve problems. Possible job opportunities include: graphic designer, art director, layout artist, illustrator, and free-lance designer.

Living in an information society, our senses are constantly bombarded by words and pictures. Graphic designers make order out of chaos; they must be researchers, analysts and organizers as well as artist. Time is invested in learning to use the same software used by the graphic design field. This prepares the student for real world demands and frees the student to concentrate on concepts.
Pictured above are Graphic Design II students Chrissy Heilman and Phill Frisk posing with their client Bonnie Costello of MJC after discussing the brochure and presentation folder that they designed for the Nursing Program (Fall 2000).
