Strengthen Core Skills at MJC

MJC offers a wide selection of courses designed to prepare you for college-level study or for career preparation.

  • Math courses start at a review of arithmetic level and conclude at  fourth semester calculus.
  • Reading courses will improve your vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension.
  • English courses develop your writing ability and improve your grammar.

You'll find charts under these academic subjects outlining course sequences.

English-as-a-Second Language

If English is not your first language, MJC offers a six-level range of English-as-a-Second Language or ESL classes for academic credit. If you are interested in strengthening your English skills but don't want academic credit, you may enroll in non-credit ESL classes which are offered in four levels. Please note that enrolling in non-credit classes alone requires a Non-Credit application for Admission, available in the Admissions office on both campuses.

No High School Diploma?

Not sure yet about college? If you are 18 or older and have not yet earned your high school diploma, you can enroll in a GED preparation class. This class reviews high school core subjects which will prepare you for the GED Test. If you are interested in the GED program, contact the MJC Counseling Center at (209) 575-6080. When you feel like you've mastered the material in the course, you can sign up to take the GED Test which is offered at various locations in Stanislaus County.
