Dear: (STUDENT NAME) ID (DATATEL #))
A review of all your Modesto Junior College (MJC) grades, including W ‘s, at the end of summer 2008 indicates you are currently in the status of:
O Academic Probation, first semester
O Progress Probation, second semester
* Explanations and student's responsibilities for each status, as defined by Yosemite Community College District Board Policy 5560 (Probation, Disqualification, Readmission), are listed below (see MJC Catalog for complete Policy):
* Academic and/or Progress Dismissal: If you are on dismissal status and have not been granted readmission to the college for fall 2008 by a counselor, you will be dismissed from Modesto Junior College for a period of one calendar year. The one year dismissal period will begin at the start of the next term (spring 2009). You will be blocked from registration for spring 2009. If you have already registered for the fall 2008 term, you will be allowed to finish. Students receiving notice of dismissal may request readmission (see MJC Catalog) by meeting with a counselor. If you have special circumstances you can call the Counseling Center (209) 575-6080 to ask that your situation be reviewed. If you are being served by DSP&S you may call (209) 575-6225. EOP&S students can call (209) 575-6251. Examples of special circumstances may include:
Your cumulative GPA is below 2.0 but your GPA from recent term(s) is 2.0 or above, which reflects you are successfully progressing academically;
In your last term your percentage of units in the categories of W, I or NC is above 50% because you were advised by your counselor to withdraw from a class for academic, personal, or health reasons and these issues have been resolved.
You are on dismissal this semester but doing well in your classes (a grade check form will be requested by counseling).
* Academic and/or Progress Probation, second semester: You must call the Counseling Center (209) 575-6080 to enroll in a required fall 2008 Probation Workshop (students on dismissal must see a counselor and are not required to attend this workshop). You are also encouraged to use the support services that are available to you at MJC (see information below).
* Academic and/or Progress Probation, first semester: Although not required, you are encouraged to use one or more of the numerous services for students who find they are having difficulty reaching their academic goals. You may want to explore The Center for Learning Assistance (East: Founders Hall 105, West: Sierra Hall 214), where you can take computer based courses with study groups to help in the areas of reading, writing, and grammar; The Math Drop - In Center (East: Founders Hall 128C, West: Sierra Hall 221), where assistance is provided to help you understand math concepts, and get answers to short quick questions; The Tutoring Center (East: Library Basement 10, West: Yosemite Hall 118), where free tutoring is available in various subject areas; The Writing Center (East: Founders Hall 224, West: Sierra Hall 214), where you will receive assistance with any aspect of writing. You can explore other resources available to you by visiting the MJC Website (http://mjc.edu/).
