MJC's Passport to College program is distributing hope and valuable college scholarships to local fifth grade students. Upon entering the program, every student receives a Passport Certificate that will waive fees for two years at MJC once they graduate from high school.
Aimed to help more students eventually make it to college, the program is currently helping students at Franklin, Orville Wright and Fairview Elementary schools. Providing incentives and removing financial barriers can make a real difference in a young person's life. Each student in the program receives:
• Opportunities to participate is special activities at MJC
• An opportunity to write a book in class and share it with MJC
• Free books donated by MJC faculty and staff
Daniel Malfabano, a 5th grader at Orville Wright, is a great example of the success of this program. He's extremely excited about his scholarship and inspired to study hard. "I want to go to college and study animals and become a veterinarian," said Malfabano. "I also want to study art and guitar."
