Art and Optical Illusions (Ages 9-13)
Explore the fun science behind light and sight with hands-on activities. View and play with many optical illusions and effects. Then use techniques artists have learned to control optical illusions for special effects in your own artwork. You will take the color blindness test and learn the many eye popping effects color can create, play with positive and negative space, and learn to draw in 3-D.
NOTE: Bring a pencil and notebook to journal your discoveries.

Creative Painting (Ages 8-14)
Explore the wonderful world of painting with our very own MJC Art Instructor Linda Salmon. Discover the fun ways to add paint to your canvas without using a brush as well as traditional painting methods. Learn how to choose your palette and mix colors. You will create a masterpiece to display. Family will be invited to your art show on the last day of class. All levels welcome.

Sketching for Kids (Ages 8-14)
Learn skills in drawing and techniques while expressing yourself through class projects using lines and shapes. You will explore how to analyze objects in nature and draw through careful observation. Lots of projects, lots of fun! All skill levels welcome.

American Girl: Star Spangled Manners (Ages 6-12)
It’s Here! Our very own American Girl doll series created by Community Ed! This fun 6 hour activity will give young girls the opportunity to combine their love of playing with American Girl dolls with an enjoyable advantageous chance to reinforce and learn etiquette. Lessons of love, friendship, courage, compassion, and tolerance are at the heart of every American Girl story. Likewise, by formally learning and practicing manners/etiquette, young girls become more motivated, confident and capable of demonstrating these essential life skills through their words, actions and deeds.

Kids Beginning Sewing (Ages 8-12)
Do you want to learn how to sew? In this class you will learn basic sewing skills, including the operation of a sewing machine. You will construct a double drawstring bag, belt and other small projects. Returning students welcome.

Sewing Boot Camp: Learn to Sew (Ages 8-12)
It doesn’t matter what your level of sewing is - if you’ve never touched a sewing machine or have experience sewing and you are looking for new projects, you will enjoy this class. In this 4-day camp, would-be sewers will learn to operate a sewing machine, including threading, forward and reverse stitching, and turning and pivoting. You also learn how to cut and press fabric. You will make a drawstring tote bag for a basic project, a bean bag customized with your monogram. You can sew a stylish zippered bag or a cool friendship pillow.

Act it Out (Ages 5-7)
Is your child a “ham” or maybe a bit bashful? Either way they will become “Little Starz” as they learn how to get into character by using facial expressions and tongue twisters. In this cool, interactive workshop kids will have fun doing physical and scripted improvisation while practicing for the end of class TV commercial.

Become a Star (Ages 8-11)
Do you ever daydream about being an actor or actress? Parents, would you like to find an outlet for all that drama your pre-teen displays? Then sign your child up for this acting workshop! Kids will learn how to get into character by doing improvisation games, facial expressions, and tongue twisters. These future stars will act out certain characters as they learn how to interact with one another in a short commercial or script designed for two people. Students will use the auditioning techniques they learn in a mock audition TV commercial.

Acting on Camera: Skits and Scripts (Ages 12-16)
Do you want to act on camera? Well here is your chance to tap into your creativity and self-expression with lessons in improvisation, character development, cold reads and timing. Engage in roles ranging from comedic to dramatic, fantastical to serious. Learn how to not break character, work in solo, duet or groups and then perform it all on camera. On the last day of class you will take home your performance on a DVD.
NOTE: On March 25th class meets from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. for video taking. Ask for photo release form.
