Computers for the Absolute Beginner
This hands-on class will introduce new computer users to the personal computer and its uses. Your instructor will quickly put you at ease and you will soon be able to feel comfortable using a computer. This class is taught on Windows based computers. You will learn the use of the mouse, and using a Windows-based word processing program. By the end of the course you should feel comfortable creating, saving and retrieving documents. No previous computer experience is necessary. A basic book is included.

Microsoft Word 2007 - Intermediate - #1708

You will continue on in your learning the features of Word 2007 and how they can help you perform many common office projects. You will learn to create templates, letters and envelopes, and labels. Mail Merge in Word 2007 - #1709
Prerequisite: Beginning Word 2007 class or knowledge of Word 2007
Learn how to use Microsoft Word 2007 Mail Merge tool to create personalized letters, pre-addressed envelopes, and mailing labels from a database of names and addresses. You will understand how mail merge works so that you can get the results you want. In the class you will set up a document for mass mailing, use the new Mailings tab and wizards to perform a mail merge. Practice performing complex mail merges with several unique Word fields into documents and email messages.

This course will introduce the novice to QuickBooks and the accounting principles. The class will cover working with customer transactions and vendor transactions. Using practice files for a merchandising company, you will learn to deal with physical inventory and sales tax. The course will demonstrate setting up and using QuickBooks for payroll. Personal Computer Tune-Up - #1719
This class is designed for those who are ready to take charge of their own personal computers and/or laptops. It is recommended that participants should have familiarity with Windows XP, in addition to some computer hardware troubleshooting experience. In this class you will learn to make your computer operate the way it did when you first bought it. You will learn backup and restore techniques that will prepare you to recover your system from catastrophic hardware failure. Hardware and software problems can cause your system to stall on boot-up or shut-down. You will learn strategies to isolate and solve these problems. You will also learn to determine when and how to upgrade your computer hardware. Bring your own computer to class. Keyboards, mice and monitors will be available to use.

On Line Classes

Do you find that some of the computer classes we offer on campus do not fit into your schedule? Now there is another, convenient option-ON-LINE COMPUTER COURSES. MJC Community Education has contracted with a company that provides on-line courses to colleges throughout the country. By checking the list below, you'll see that we offer training for a wide variety of software and interests.
All classes are presented over a 6-week period, with a 2 week grace period at the end. Two lessons are available each week, on Wed. and Fri. You do not have to be available when the lessons are released.

Go to the web site at http://www.ed2go.com/mjc

1. Find the course you might want under the headings. Read the short description and then double click on the title of the course to find what will be covered lesson by lesson.

2. If you are interested in one of the classes, note the section # listed next to the date you want to register for. You can then register with one of the methods listed on page 4 (online, phone, in person, fax, mail).

3. After you have registered with MJC Community Education, go to the site and click on "orientation." Follow the directions and continue until it reads that you have completed the orientation.

4. On the start date for your class (see below), go to the ed2go.com/mjc web site, click "classroom" and access your course.
