What is Assessment?
Assessment is a process involving multiple measures of your skills and previous experiences. These measures include assessment testing (designed to measure your current skills in English, reading, and math); a review of high school or college transcripts showing courses completed and length of time since completions, and an appraisal of your present family/work responsibilities, skills and academic history.
How do I start?
1. Apply online or pick up an application at either MJC Admissions Office, located in the Student Center on the East Campus (College Avenue campus) or Yosemite Hall Room 147 on the West Campus.
2. Attend an assessment test on the MJC West Campus. Click here for assessment dates.
3. After math and English assessment is complete, contact Counseling at 575-6080. Your test results will be used by the counselor to help you select appropriate courses for your chosen major. Remember to attend an orientation session also (575-6789).New students are required to attend an orientation and advising session after assessing. Then you may register at your appointed day and time. Re-entering students should see an advisor before registration.
You must do this whether your goals include:transfer, certification, an Associate Degree, job skill training, or undecided. Regardless of your goal, all English Composition, Reading, Math, and credit ESL classes have prerequisites which may be satisfied by the assessment test.Other ways to satisfy MJC assessment are:
-by using prior MJC test scores (must be within 5 years).
-by retesting at MJC if classes in math, English or ESL have not yet been taken at MJC.
-by sending college or university transcripts containing English, Math,
or ESL grades to the MJC Records Office, 435 College Avenue, Modesto, CA 95350.
-by mailing or faxing California Community college scores that are within the past 5 years to the
MJC Records Office, 435 college Avenue, Modesto, CA 95350, fax (209) 575-6723.
