California faces two critical problems in the K-12 educational system: a teacher shortage that will require the hiring of thousands of teachers each year for next several years, and low K-6 reading scores in schools throughout the state.
The Modesto Junior College MLT Project addresses these issues by identifying, enrolling and training MJC students to provide one-on-one and small group tutoring to low-achieving children in elementary (K-6) schools in our community.
This is an excellent opportunity for future teachers to attain hands-on experience teaching reading, writing and math while strengthening children's skills in these areas.
