Program Eligibility and Preparation Admission to Modesto Junior College
If you are not already a student of MJC, you must submit an Application for Admission to MJC. This can be done online or at the Admissions Office on either MJC campus. High School Graduation or Equivalent (GED or College Degree) Although high school graduation is not required, it is recommended for success.
Recommended Competencies
Although assessment testing is not required, the following competency is recommended for success: MJC Reading Assessment (Accuplacer) with a minimum score of 70 or MJC Reading Assessment (DTLS) with a minimum score of 12 (this test is no longer offered at MJC) or completion of Reading 184. For test dates and times, contact the Testing Center 575-6026 or check the online testing schedule.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for Nurse 40.
Program Application
There is no program application for Nurse 40. When your registration appointment comes up, register for MNURSE 40 for 5 units. Later you will be asked to enroll in MNURSK 800 for 0 units. If the class is full when you register for classes, you may attend the first day of class and ask if there is room to “add” the class. Students who are waitlisted will be added first, but if there is space available the instructor will give you an add slip.
Additional Requirements
for Students Enrolled in Nurse 40 Please Note: You may pick up a Health Clearance form from the Allied Health Office as soon as you have enrolled in Nurse 40. The Health Clearance and PPD requirement must be completed by the 3rd week of class.) Health Clearance § A medical history and physical examination completed by a physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner within 3 months prior to program start date. The physical must state that the applicant does not have any health conditions that would create a hazard to self, employees, or patients.
Documentation of required immunizations - A negative PPD skin test must be obtained. If a positive reaction is obtained, or has previously been obtained, a chest x-ray must be taken unless medically contraindicated.
Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check - All students participating in clinical assignments are required to complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting, and be cleared by the clinical facility in order to participate in the clinical experience. The cost for the fingerprinting and criminal background check is about $57.00. Forms and instructions for completing this will be provided by your instructor during the first week of class.
Nurse Assistant Certification Application
(HS-283B) Nurse 40 students will receive required forms and instructions on completing the Department of Health Services application process in class. (Cost - $90)
